Lauren Lawler is happily married to Niall raising their nine-year old son Joe. Lauren is a bored housewife and looks forward to meeting with her friend Monique. An old high school friend Bettina moves to her town with her son Tyler. Then strange things start happening and she faces disturbing events including a car crash, and poison-pen letters suggesting someone is trying to ruin her perfect life. I really enjoyed this fantastic psychological thriller novel.

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall on behalf of Kindle Friends Forever.

Underneath is a standalone novel bursting with suspense. It's not a love story as the two protagonists have what would appear at the beginning of the book, a settled life; however, for Lauren, her life is on the verge of boredom. It has been written in first person which I regard as a difficult feat in itself. The plot is original and when you think that you have everything mapped out in your head, bam! There is a twist in it which will leave you aghast! Trust issues abound, deception rules, and the situation the characters find themselves in, draws out an aggressive behaviour they didn't realise they had in them.

Lauren Lawler and her caring husband, Niall, have a nine year old lad, Joe, who they both adore. She is the perfect mother! Even though she doesn't complain about her humdrum chores, and the running of a little business she has online keeps her occupied and brings in some extra cash, guess what's lacking in the bedroom department? Trying to brighten up her sex life; enticing her dormant husband Niall with her womanly ways, has no effect whatsoever. She complains, he makes excuses and doesn't hold back when he keeps reminding her that he is the bread-winner. I found it easy to relate to their lives. They are such a normal couple living in the north of England and do what most people do!

Lauren always looks forward to sharing her gripes with her bosom buddy, Monique. And of course, Monique laps up what Lauren tells her and is always ready to give advice. When an acquaintance from the past moves back to Sheffield, Lauren finds herself being cajoled into participating in her son's school fète. Well, a flirtatious teacher may have a hand in her decision, too! But why, all of a sudden, Bettina wants any kind of relationship with her after what had happened years ago, makes Lauren suspicious. From here on in, the story picks up. Strange things occur and the only person who takes Lauren seriously is her bestie.

I was never waiting for the twist which put a hell of lot of spice into the story. The author has without a doubt, done her homework well! I would have liked to have known a little more about how Lauren and her husband overcame their problems after such a horrific experience. I didn't come across one spelling mistake; nevertheless, the editing could have been better!

All in all, Underneath is an enjoyable read that will have you flipping the pages!

Underneath is like watching your favorite TV show that you don't admit to watching. I did enjoy the whole revenge plot despite not feeling warm to the main character. I keyed into the antagonist early on but was surprised at the motive. The relationship between Lo and Seb was adolescent at best. Some actions were not well written or explained and I was often lost in the British English, which the author kindly mentions in the intro pages. (Thanks to Google and Wikipedia for the description of "butty" and other phrases.) This is a book to pick up if you are in the mood for brain candy and nothing more.

I have read some of this author's rom coms and have really liked them. For some reason though the British words in this book had me thinking a little harder. They were words I wasn't as familiar with. The first half of the book I felt like it took a little long to get into the story and I had to keep trying to figure out words. The second half of the book read very quickly and I got sucked into the mystery. It was a good read, it was just hard for me to get into for the first half.

I thought the marriage troubles that Niall and Lauren experience are very real. Being in my 40's I could completely relate to those troubles and what Lauren is going through in her marriage. I thought the story was well told and it kept me guessing. It was an intriguing and good read.

In the past few months, I've come to love Andie's writing. I first read her Alphabet series and was in love with the suspenseful story!! But this one is cray cray suspenseful in a whole other level!! It was quite the roller coaster ride!!

The book is well written. The characters in this book are relatable and they seem real. This story has a bit of everything, humor, suspense and a touch of reality. This book is definitely more on the suspense side, but I couldn't help but laugh at Lauren's antics and the situations she put herself in. At times I didn't know how to feel about her but I could sympathize with her situation, even though sometimes I thought she was a little naive at best.

Lauren is married to Niall and they seem to live a pretty normal, happy life with their son Joe. But she has become bored with her seemingly "perfect" life. Niall only has time for work and watching TV. Their sex life is nonexistent. The only thing that keeps her entertained is her eBay shop and her weekly meet up for coffee with her best friend.

This is the perfect case of not everything is at it seems. You don't know who to trust or what to believe is real. You are presented with all this evidence and now you don't know which way is up. The way Andie writes her stories and her characters have a way of grabbing your attention and keep you on the edge of your seat till the last page. Be sure to 1-Click this one!! ;)

Un must !

    Happy End !

Wow! I liked this story so much! Some points were funny, but then the story evolved in something more profound and intriguing. When you expected them the least, crucial facts happened making the reading of this book a pleasant experience.
I liked seeing the main character, Lo, mature in the course of the book and manage to let the past go, looking at her and her family's future.
I love reading Andie M. Long's books as I always enjoy British authors.
