About the author
USA Today bestselling author Roxanne Snopek writes award-winning contemporary women’s fiction and romance with an anti-patriarchal flair. Her characters have the same concerns we do about women’s rights, gender politics, tolerance and equality—but they get to fight their battles and win! Roxanne forces her characters (and occasionally herself) out of their comfort zones to do the right things, and they (and occasionally she) become better people for it.
Roxanne writes, rages and ruminates from her lakeside home in southern British Columbia, where she lives with her partner of 36 years and two prescient poodles. She also bakes bread, battles weeds, and co-hosts the popular podcast Happy Hour with Ruth and Roxy, where she and her pal Ruth (surprise!) discuss how to get more happiness with less bull… you know.
Her list of favourite authors is ever changing and includes Barbara Kingsolver, Barbara O’Neal, Stephen King, Robyn Carr, Loreth Anne White, Elizabeth Berg, Terry Pratchett, Ann Patchett, Lucy Maude Montgomery and on and on. She loves to connect with other book lovers, so please look for Roxanne Snopek Author on the various social media platforms. - Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2018Oh WoW this book is not what I expected but was so much more. Austin Sweet has lost everything including it appears his wife. We meet him as he is in this broken down old farmhouse in the middle of winter in Marietta, Montana. Yes, my favorite place in the entire world (that really does not even exists). We discover that he has been "gifted" the Sweet Honey Farm only to recover it and get it back up to making a profit. Then we get to meet Melanie his wife and this is where the story gets interesting and takes a very surprising turn. Things are not always as they seem and life does throw thing all sorts of amazing things at you. You just need to be open to catching them with open arms and a willing heart. This book was so moving and oh so touching to me. It had me wanting to can jams and eat more honey. (I already only eat organic honey as my sweetner.) Author Roxanne Snopek can paint an amazing picture of the broken down farmhouse with the bee barn and goats in vivid color. I can see the lights on the old show pieces and all the snow all around the farm. We do get to see some familiar faces among the new ones. Beautiful novella about family, friendships and second change love.
Also As a wonderful surprise I got to read one of Roxanne Snopek's short stories called
Montana Secrets ... The Jackson Family Legacy.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2015This was a heart-warming story.
This is about the Sweets. Austin and Melinda Sweet have had more than their fair share of life's lemons being thrown at them. This was a sweet story about a married couple reconnecting to each other and making the best our of their situations.
This a great story to read not just at Christmas, Christmas is not the main focus.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2020An easy read set in times of love, job challenges having it all to a real life of riches to rags, What a father and mother finds in helping their son and it is a lesson many can learn to have it all being happy but sad and things is lost in both worlds, miles a part can heal and it takes giving in all concerned. A good short book read, can be read by young adults and older women that enjoys a cute story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2016A Sweet Montana Christmas (This Old House 2) by Roxanne Snopek
This is the first thing I have read by this author. I will be reading more. This novella is well written, just enough description so I can 'see' the story background. The characters are well developed and the story holds you until the last word. Here is a bit about it.
Austin Sweet has lost everything. His business, wife, home, car, everything. The business, house and car hurt but his wife just about destroyed him. Oh they are still married, not even officially separated but.... She is with her mother and he is here at this broken down old farm his father let him stay at with the understanding he get it ready to sell in the spring. A car driving up to the house woke him from a sound sleep. He rushed to the door pulling on his shirt as he opened the door. There to his amazement stood Melinda, his wife. The best sight in the world. He barely caught her as she fainted. This is the story of what happened after that. Can they reignite their love after the nightmare they lived through?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2015A Sweet Montana Christmas was a good read, but I felt like I was coming in partway through the story. I kept looking at the first book in the series to see if I missed something, and it doesn't look like it. Though Austin and Melinda could have been secondary characters in it. Either way it was a good read, I just felt like I was missing part of the story.
Austin is living in a run down farmhouse trying to fix it up and get his life back together. He misses his wife, who is not there with him, and thinks he really made a mess of everything. His company collapsed and now he doesn't have much. How can he ever hope to get his wife back if he has nothing?
Melinda has been hiding out with her family, but is now ready to try and work things out with Austin. Here is where I felt like I was missing out. I didn't really understand what happened and why Melinda didn't go with Austin to the farm. Later on you get glimpses of how they both shut off when everything collapsed, but it didn't make a lot of sense while reading. Also Austin's family is apparently manipulative, but I didn't really understand that since I didn't know them. Like Austin gets offered the farm as a Christmas gift (instead of just fixing it up and sharing in the profits when they sell in the spring) and that is this huge awful thing for some reason. I really don't know why. When I read that I was just like oh good. You can a) stay and live on the farm, try to make it viable or b) still sell it in the spring and keep all the profits. What is the downside to this again? You would have to keep the profits if you sell it? That is not really a negative...
When Melinda shows up on Austin's doorstep he doesn't know what to think. These two have some things to work through, but they obviously both still care deeply for the other. It was cute watching them come together again. It was an alright Christmas read I just wish I had more of the backstory so all the pieces would have fit together better.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2014Austin and Melinda Sweet had separated after he lost his company and she lost her job. Real world stress was just getting to be too much for them. Then his father had him work on his grandfather's farm (honey bees and goats) for the winter.
I loved Austin and Melinda. I loved how much they loved each other and how they didn't blame each other for the bad things that had happened in their lives. I had to chuckle at the condition of the home and Melinda's initial reactions to it. Run down, no hot water, wood stove for heat, all of those things would scare most city girls away, but she dug right in and made the best of it. The secondary characters were great too. Leda was by far the best. She almost stole the show at the end too.
This was a great heartwarming story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect as ever!
I adore Roxanne's books, gentle familiar and read with an indulgent smile. I read one of hers in a compendium and thought it was as good as a Snopek, I'd see what else the writer had written and lo! It was a Snopek. Never having met a fainting chair, looked it up and decided I must have one! Only criticism I got a tad perplexed with the time line, not exactly seeing June as Spring!
