Trigger Point (The Gabriel Wolfe Thrillers Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 9,469 ratings

“Edge of the seat stuff.” M. Madden

SAS combat veteran Gabriel Wolfe now works as a Government troubleshooter. Haunted by a botched mission, he battles PTSD as well as his country’s enemies. In Trigger Point, Gabriel faces an egotistical billionaire planning an armed coup.

It all starts here …

While driving his prized Maserati, Gabriel is run off the road by a glamorous redhead who tells him his old CO, Don Webster, wants to see him. Don now runs a covert ops unit called, simply, the Department. He hires Gabriel as a troubleshooter. “The job’s pretty easy, Old Sport. You find trouble. And you shoot it.”

Gabriel is inserted into Sir Toby Maitland’s inner circle and accompanies him to the US, where he intends to buy the final pieces of kit he needs for his coup to succeed. But Maitland is as devious as he is rich, and soon Gabriel is under threat from an unexpected quarter.

Partnered with a former Delta Force operative, Shaun Cunningham, Gabriel has just days to defeat Maitland or see the country he loves fall into enemy hands. But Maitland has powerful, and dangerous, friends.

Readers’ opinions

“The opening gambit for Gabriel Wolfe, and a great story of a plan to take back the United Kingdom from the government by a madman. Great intriguing tale.”
S.D. Knight

“Andy Maslen's
Trigger Point introduces Gabriel Wolfe as a new hero. What a tremendous read. Fast paced, kept me in suspense all of the way through. Could hardly put it down.”
Ian Brown

“Absolutely brilliant. You will not be disappointed!”
Bev Jarvis

The first book in an enthralling series

This gritty, action-packed thriller will leave you short of sleep. It will keep you guessing from page one, including a truly shocking second-act twist. Its powerful mix of strong male and female characters will have you rooting for them against all the odds they face.

A hero like no other

Readers have compared Wolfe to other familiar action heroes. Jack Reacher. John Milton. Ben Hope. Spider Shepherd. Mitch Rapp. But in truth he is his own man.

He's no super-soldier or indestructible man-mountain. If he's shot, he bleeds ... and he hurts. His PTSD, which he battles along with his country’s enemies, gives his missions a sharper edge.

But make no mistake. Wolfe is a good man to have on your side in a tight spot. And he always finds time to help those in trouble, whether or not they are paying for his services.

Soldier with explosion in background

The first six books in the Gabriel Wolfe series ...

Perfect for fans of lone-hero vigilante stories. The series features missions and solo operations conducted by ex-SAS member Gabriel Wolfe.

Wolfe is a fearsome fighter, haunted by visions of his dead comrades left behind in a disastrous mission in Africa. He struggles to overcome his PTSD, using techniques taught to him by a Chinese mentor who raised him as a boy.

Each book in the series can be read as a standalone adventure, but readers report greater pleasure from reading the books in sequence. We have to agree.

Writer Andy Maslen has created an entirely unique character in the thriller genre in Gabriel Wolfe. He's not indestructible. Nor is he so tactically brilliant that he has analyzed every outcome of his actions. He's just a man who spent a part of his life with the British Special Air Service, the elite group nobody wants on his tail. Wolfe has gone successfully into private practice, helping clients solve security issues. I first read of Maslen's novels on Facebook as I mindlessly scrolled through gibberish on the political issues of the day. I totally appreciated the break and read the text. I'm a big Lee Child fan, but I've read all his novels and have moved on to various others in genre. While I'm fully loving what I've come across as I don't read stuff I don't like, nothing has the nuance of Reacher. And that's not a requirement. What I found with Maslen is a subtle approach to story telling. Wolfe's approach is straightforward in a you've-got-to-read-it-to-understand style. What Maslen does is create in his antagonists a depth that unfolds throughout the process. They mature, often in diabolical ways. And not like Dick Dastardly and Muttley of Hanna Barbera fame. Still gnawing at my memory is billionaire Toby Maitland, who considered nothing but himself as he plotted to assume the seat of the UK's highest office. So, in essence, I delved again into politics. But this time I brought along a man who figured out how to infiltrate an organization and with very little help avoided global calamity. I have yet to pick up the next in the series. But I will. Just for me, this isn't an author to consume in rapid succession. This Maslen guy got into my head. The four stars is just because I disliked Maitland so much. Of course thinking about it that way makes me want to make it five.

I got the sample and thought this book looks good and seems like could be exciting. After buying the full book, i found it to be predictable and just monotonous as well. Also, his PTSD thing is just bit weird and seems totally out of character and overdone to me.

All the chracters are a bit predictable too with Britta supposed to be a top sniper but seems to spend most of the time as a secret agent and bedfellow. The other characters also seem very sterotype too and I only got less than halfway then jumped to the end chapter just to see what happened.

For me it seemed to offer a lot of promise, others have certainly enjoyed it but I read many books and many action/thrillers and this one just does not make the grade for me. I gave it 3 stars as a first book, I also looked at the outlines and samples for the next books and to see Gebriel still losing control with his PTSD but being a supposed 'hero' just was not for me...

I enjoyed this book and it's storyline. While Gabriel Wolfe is far from charismatic, he is idealistic and tough. He has the makings of a good hero and this story is a good start. To me, the villains make this book. Maitland and his daughter Lizzie are diabolical. Davis Weeks of the Hells Angels is bad man. They give you something to hate. While the story isn't nonstop action, it gives you enough to move at a fast pace and keep you intrigued. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

I finally found the time to try Andy Maslen and the series about Gabriel Wolfe, Trigger Point is the first book and it tells some of the story why Gabriel no longer is a member of SAS. The main story however is about a local businessman who plans a coup to take over England. It was a fast and easy read with some great action and also humor, I look forward to continue reading this series.

I discovered this book via Bookbub.com, when it was on sale. I was hooked instantly and so happy to see there were other books about Gabriel Wolfe. The action in this is fun and suspenseful. Best of all for me, Gabriel Wolfe is an interesting and likeable character. You can't help but cheer for him. I also like that it is set in Britain and the author sticks to british slang and words in descriptions and dialogue. I recommend this book and every other one of the books in the Gabriel Wolfe series.

I am sorry but l did not like this book. I didn't even read it to the end. It is like endlessly repeating politically correct everyday values, all the bad guys are white big Nazis and the good guys are "women of color" or female Swedish secret service agents (who ever heard anything so bizarre?) . Then the dog dies and l closed the book, not able to take any more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
Reviewed in Australia on July 20, 2017
Excellent book, and very well written. I love finding a new Author that can capture my attention like Andy Maslen has done with this fabulous Action Thriller. This story has everything I look for in a good novel, an Interesting and entertaining plot, an excellent group of characters, and a good ending. Gabriel’s new job as a freelance negotiator was a world away from his days in the SAS. Dealing with Politicians and high net worth clients in the UK, wasn’t anything like his days in Iraq and Mozambique as a solider. Being offered some work by Sir Toby Maitland didn’t initially interest him, however a friend of his suggested that there was a certain government department that appreciate it if he did. Sir Toby may have been a billionaire business man, but the government knew he had some shady dealings with local and overseas interests. They needed Gabriel to find out what he was up to and report back to them. Gabriel certainly had to be on his guard after some of the things he witnessed Sir Toby get up to, and his is positive his employer is completely crazy. I really did enjoy this book from the first page, right through to the last page. It’s definitely worth adding to your reading list.
