The Color of a Promise (The Color of Heaven Series Book 11) Kindle Edition
Having spent a lifetime in competition with his older brother Aaron—who always seemed to get the girl—Jack Peterson leaves the U.S. to become a foreign correspondent in the Middle East. When a roadside bomb forces him to return home to recover from his wounds, he quickly becomes the most celebrated journalist on television, and is awarded his own prime time news program. Now, wealthy and successful beyond his wildest dreams, Jack believes he has finally found where he is meant to be. But when a giant commercial airliner explodes in the sky over his summer house in Cape Elizabeth, all hell breaks loose as the wreckage crashes to the ground. He has no idea that his life is about to take another astonishing turn…
Meg Andrews grew up with a fear of flying, but when it meant she wouldn’t be able to visit her boyfriend on the opposite side of the country, she confronted her fear head-on and earned her pilot’s license. Now, a decade later, she is a respected airline crash investigator, passionate about her work, to the point of obsession. When she arrives in the picturesque seaside community of Cape Elizabeth to investigate a massive airline disaster, she meets the famous and charismatic Jack Peterson, who has his own personal fascination with plane crashes.
As the investigation intensifies, Meg and Jack feel a powerful, inexplicable connection to each other. Soon, they realize that the truth behind the crash—and the mystery of their connection—can only be discovered through the strength of the human spirit, the timeless bonds of family, and the gift of second chances.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2024THE COLOR OF A PROMISE is a standalone read with a happy ending. It is part of a series and if this is your first read you will not be lost. This series is so hard to review because there is too much story to tell but too much telling will give it all away and that would be a disservice to the author. There is a recurring theme to all the books as they touch on a certain possibility. These stories all appeal to me because they touch on subjects that I believe in and some I have experienced.
I am sure everyone has heard of or read about a story where a child will experience memory from a past life. He/she will assure everyone around them that they had a spouse and family they remember and miss. At one time they were thought to be crazy or have a wild imagination, etc. and doctors scoffed at the very idea. But then the children remember something that he/she had no way of knowing unless they experienced it. Some believe in reincarnation and some don't. I do. Eventually the child will be kept quiet. There are extensive studies and books written on the subject of reincarnation.
The two main characters could have been together at another period in time, or could they? This is a great story as the man tells the story of his life. As with all the books there are several stories going on at one time, but they all tie together. Definitely a great read as are all the others and I highly recommend even if you don't believe in reincarnation. It will give you something to think about.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer, nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am NOT A BOT. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 12/16/24.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2017This review is for the Series -- consistently enjoyable reads: Absolutely inspiring -- every book in the series! -- well-developed characters, and wonderful story lines -- all stand-alone novels (though most are more meaningful if read in order) -- and very different kind of read. Earlier, I had read 3 of these books, out of sequence, and loved each one so much that I decided to start with the first and read them in order. While definitely stand-alone reads, there is some cross-over in some of the stories that made the reads much richer. I loved reading them straight through from 1-12. I will read #13 next and any that Ms MacLean adds to the series. This is a very special series, and the stories touched my heart.
Great character development, inspiring and intriguing story line, and great editing. A pleasure to read any book by this author.
I rated 11 of the 12 I read with 5-stars, and one a 4-star.
Update: I grab up each new addition to this series! Never disappointed!

You feel the passion they have for their jobs and each other.
Incredible story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2016I'm always looking forward to the next book in this series and that is why I cannot possibly ever give it 3 stars. But I'd probably be more along 3.7 with this one.
While I enjoyed the storyline and I'm very happy that Jack (from prior book), (((VERY MINOR SPOILERS COMING..STOP READING IF YOU WANT NO SPOILERS AT ALL OR THIS IS FIRST TIME YOU ARE READING THIS SERIES!!)) finally got his happy ending; the character of Meg was not very well developed in my opinion. What I mean by this is that what she chose to do with her long time relationship seemed forced. I did not believe that this character would not need to return home and settle her present life before embarking on a future life. It seemed a little forced. I almost felt like we could've used a few more chapters. Also, it would've been interesting to explore more about her past life. Maybe these are things that will be touched upon in a future book. Who knows? I've already pre-ordered it. I do enjoy hit series very much.
The things I did enjoy are of course Jack and his brother coming to an understanding. Jack getting his happy ending as I said earlier. And the message I think that was in this novel--that sometimes you really do get a start over..with a brand new person...and the only life that matters is your present one.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2019I enjoyed this story. I remember the first time I ever read a story about reincarnation was decades ago, called the reincarnation of peter proud. I am a believer. Two things I don't like about this story is what I don't like about most stories when they are told in the first person. It's very limiting. Also, there was very little romance when I felt like there should've been a lot more. Not sex but something. Something was missing. Maybe again it's the told in the first person part. Anyhow, I am reading her new one called a curve in the road. Again, told in the first person which I don't like but I'm reading it anyway because the premise is interesting to me. But so far I am at 36% and I'm still waiting for something significant to happen other than the accident. I may or may not read anymore of this author's work.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2022I loved this story just as I have all the books in The Color of Heaven series. Sometimes I wish the author would write in a more chronological manner; I tend to get a little confused especially on characters names. But at least I get the back drift of her stories. I love the afterlife and previous life theme in this book. That is something I find intriguing. It’s a good backdrop for love stories. I do wish the story had continued a little longer into Jack and Megs coming together. In fact I wish it had ended differently. But it’s a great story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance
This is a truly romantic book bringing back Jack Petersen, and introducing Meg into the story. There is less about reincarnation although it forms part of the story. A lovely read

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean Romance
This is the story of Jack and Meg. It delves into their growing up and how that had affected the way they interact with others and how they chose potential mates. Very powerful storyline takes you through each of their lives and is written so you can compare how it affected each of them. The impact of major events is gone into in depth and you are left feeling quite deeply about the events yourself. I love the writing and really enjoyed to storylines. Great love story and very realistic.

4.0 out of 5 stars the never ending
Told well about people's lives and in this case, tragedy unites people.
This story throws some light on the trust we put in our services. I enjoyed the brother relationship, the power of working through fear and how all of life's twists and turns, over which we have no control.
Given the title of this series, we knew it would have a happy ending with promise of a good ending!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another page turner
Following on from the last novel, this explores Jack’s destiny and emergence from his obsession with his past life experiences. Can he bury the hatchet with Aaron and find happiness in this life?

5.0 out of 5 stars so NOT what I expected x
What a wonderful book! I love the way each of these books is woven in such a way that they interlink both with topic but also with characters! I’m sad to think I only have two left x I can’t wait to get going and I’ll be so sad to see it end x it looks like the last it came out in 2017 so I’m guessing there won’t be anymore :’( how very sad x
