The Imposter's Trail: An FBI Mystery Thriller (The Sean Kruger Series Book 3) Kindle Edition
Some killers leave bodies. The worst leave questions.
A plane vanishes over the Indian Ocean. A woman dies in Illinois. Sean Kruger sees the pattern no one else can—Randolph Bishop's signature. The only killer who ever beat him is back.
Six years ago, Kruger made a mistake. Bishop slipped away. Now he's returned, turning vengeance into an art form. Each death sends a message. Each crime scene mocks Kruger's failure.
Bishop strikes at Kruger's family. Teaching college can't keep them safe. The killer plays a longer game, one that started the day he escaped. He's had six years to plan. Six years to perfect his revenge.
The Impostor's Trail pits Kruger against a monster of his own making. J.C. Fields crafts a hunt where the predator becomes prey, and justice wears two faces. Some trails lead to redemption. Others to damnation.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2023An excellent book about an FBI agent on the trail of a man who eluded him 6 years earlier. The characters are well written and engaging and the plot has some surprises. Definitely worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2023I just finished book 3, started book 4, and already purchased the last 4 to read back to back. The stories are well written, and the story lines flow. It's hard to find a place to stop and get some sleep, because you'll always want to know what happens next! I hated how many victims died, but it served to keep you wishing the psychopath would soon join them, and rooting for his demise. However, as with most Kindle books, there are some typos and grammatical errors. Not enough to ruin the books or make me not want to keep reading, but two that made me cringe were the use of "pasted" for passed, and "humorous" for humerus (the arm bone). I'm hoping someone with editing power sees this and fixes those!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2019Well written and developed. Interesting Story line with believable characters and realistic actions. Quite a bit of rule bending by law enforcement officers (though I'm sure this is reality) that makes good sense, but would offer many problems. Good escape vehicle...enjoyed the ride with the cast...
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2024A GREAT BOOK! I have met the author and he has signed all my books,I have talke with him a number of times and found him super friendly.
I will read all the other books in this series and start the next
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2022Other than all the murders, the books show more action and interest. The author does a good job of putting the story flow together and the description of the characters fit to make the book better. There is so much going on. There isn’t a dead spot in the book. You start reading and want to finish in one setting.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2023Fields' stories are always enthralling. The attention to detail as well as character depth especially of Sean and JR is consistent. Even though one suspects the good guys will win, one is taken on several trails until the very end.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2022Book 3 of this series was very intense The action was dynamic! The characters were well drawn and familiar. I can't wait to read the next one. A real page turner!
