- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2018When I first saw The Off-Season by Megan Green being advertised on Facebook, the first thought in my brain was "Baseball?... I must one click!" I'm sucker for a good Baseball romance, and I'm always looking for new authors to read, so I let my twitchy one click finger do it's thing. When I started reading it, I knew it was going to be so much more than your cheeky little sports romance. This is a story about two very lost individuals, who are looking for redemption and forgiveness.
Ian "Tag" Taggart, star shortstop for the Washington Rampage, is on top of the world; and in the blink of an eye, his world comes tumbling down around him. He needs to lay low, and regroup, so he decides to spend part of his off-season at his buddy's vacation lake house, in the quaint little town of Maple Lake.
Lexi Barnes, is so very broken. She moved to Maple Lake, to escape her previous life. She made a terrible mistake, and she feels like she will never be able to accept forgiveness from anyone, especially herself. She built thick walls around her heart and nobody was able to penetrate them, until Ian shows up on her dock one morning.
I absolutely adored The Off-Season! It was just one of those gems you come across, when you aren't looking for it. It had angst, drama, humor, sweetnes, and had me laughing out, at Ian's and Lexi's banter, swooning over how Ian so completely loved Lexi, and knew just exactly what she needed, and crying when they each bared their souls to one another. There was also some special secondary characters, whom I hope will be getting a book soon. :)
The Off-Season was definitely a bottom of the 9th inning, hit outta the park, GRAND SLAM!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2019To be honest, I almost gave up on this book at the end of Chapter 1, because nothing turns me off faster than dialogue riddled with the f-word. It's irritating, distracting and pointless (in my opinion). However, I started Chapter 2 a few days later and was pulled in by Lexi and the mysterious tragedy that made her flee from Chicago to a run-down old lake house in a small Colorado town. What was she hiding from, anyway?
(Warning: some spoilers ahead!)
Enter Ian ("Tag") Taggart, a star professional baseball player who's running from the scandal of false rape charges by spending the off-season in a teammate's house next door to Lexi's, hoping to recoup his skill and reputation. He offers to help Lexi fix up her house, and her initial wariness soon starts to thaw. She has no idea who he is (no one in the entire town recognizes this nationally famous guy!) as they work on the house and gradually fall in love. But when a reporter catches them together and exposes Lexi's terrible secret to the whole country, everything falls apart.
The engrossing plot kept me turning the pages, hoping Lexi would let go of her fear and embrace the love of this beautiful man. His heartbreaking letter to her near the end . . . my gosh! How could any woman read that and not run straight into his arms? I was in tears over his pain.
This well-written story is a nice blend of sweet and steamy, and the professional proofreading is another plus--I found no typos or grammatical errors. If the unnecessary f-words were removed, this book would easily rate five perfect stars, but the overuse pulls it down to four stars overall.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2020I am so happy Megan Green's ad came up on my facebook feed. I read this book inside 24 hours! I absolutely loved the story line. I loved the main characters hesitation to move forward with life. I loved how two good, decent human beings that made mistakes (or were unfairly accused of mistakes) were able move on and find a wonderful life together. As soon as I finished this book, I jumped online to buy the next! I can't wait to read it as well as the third and will keep my fingers crossed for more after that!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2019A must read and I wish I could give it more than just five stars. This book was a one sitting read, as I couldn't stop."
"Oh My God, I Can't Even, All The Stars! Sports romance is my JAM!!!
I am so blown away at how amazing this was. I am so looking forward to reading the other 2 books.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2018This is my first read by this author and won’t be my last. This was a sweet sexy sports romance. Ian and Lexi have both been through rough pasts but need to find strength to open up to each other.
“Are you going to swing for the fences? Or sit safely in the dugout, watching the game play out in front of you.”
It was a little difficult as a mom to get passed Lexi’s mistake as it’s a big one. You want to believe people make mistakes and a mistake doesn’t define who you are but as a mom it’s tough. That was my only reason for not giving this five stars. You know Lexi is a good person but I wished her mistake wasn’t as monumental as it was. It would have been easier to relate and cheer for her happy ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2020This is a baseball sports romance about a shortstop, Tag, who has a scandal that sends him packing to a remote location while his image is cleared up. While in town he falls for his next door neighbor who is hiding from her own personal issues. The idea of two troubled souls who help each other over their hurdles is a nice one, but I just couldn't connect with the lead h, I didn't feel sorry for her. She made a mistake and then punishes herself over, and over, and over again. Plus, the story was very one sided, it seemed to be all about Lexi and her lack of self esteem and trying to sort through her issues. I had to push to finish this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2018Tag is a MLB short stop and his image is being tarnished by accusations, he knows they aren't true but he decides to lay low and avoid all spotlight, he heads out to his friend's house next door is a very quiet woman that really avoids him- Lexi Barnes. This is a good read about overcoming
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2019I really enjoyed this story. Tag and Lexi. I love how Tag is patient and keeps inserting himself to help when he is trying to get close. Can not wait until I can read the next book in the series!
