"These books just keep getting better and better!"
The residents of Peridale don't like change, so when the famous actress, Candy Bennett, rolls into the village to demolish a historic cottage, things don't go as smoothly as she would have hoped. With the 'Peridale Preservation Society' protesting her plans to build a modern home on the land, things quickly turn sour. Days into the project, Candy's lead builder, Shane, is murdered and the task to solve the mystery once again falls into Julia's lap.
Did one of the protestors kill the builder to make a statement, or was he murdered by someone from within his own team? With the preservation society, the actress, the architect, and the builders all keeping secrets, Julia soon has her hands full gathering evidence, but it's a familiar-looking new arrival in the village that commands her attention. Julia's life is torn apart when she learns of the stranger's true identity, but will she be able to focus on the challenging case before another body turns up? The only certainty is that Julia's life will never be the same again.

About the author
Agatha lives in the North West English county of Lancashire with her two cuddly beagles and one cat.
When Agatha isn’t writing, she loves reading head-scratching mysteries and thrillers, coffee, baking, and exploring her local countryside on long dog walks.
From a young age, Agatha devoured the great British murder mystery books and television shows, ample inspiration for her Peridale Café and Claire’s Candles series. She loves writing about family women who juggle their ordinary village lives with the challenges of amateur sleuthing.
Add in some good food, close friends and family, cute pets, and plenty of twists and turns, and you have a classic Agatha Frost mystery.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018I am really addicted to this series! It has everything a cozy mystery could want - intrigue, memorable characters, a small town setting. What makes this series even more delightful, is it’s a British Cozy. There is just a difference in a British Cozy - it’s like stepping into an episode of Midsomer Murders on the BBC. The village of Peridale is a picturesque, & seemingly peaceful place on the outside but one filled with many secrets & murders. Julia South, aka The Cake Lady, has never met a mystery she could walk away from. So when a bludgeoned body is found at the construction site down the road from her cottage, Julia finds herself once again drawn into investigating. As Julia races to find the murderer she brings to light several other secrets, including one that will impact her personally. While I enjoy the mystery part of the story, what draws me back is the incredible relationship between the characters, especially between Julia, her fiancé Barker, & their soon to be adopted daughter Jessie. Author Agatha Frost has another winner in Cupcakes & Casualties!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2018This is the 11th book in Agatha Frost’s “Peridale Cozy Mystery” series and I think it is the best! It was wonderful to go back to the quaint village of Peridale! Frost writes so very descriptively that the reader is able to “see” the village, the shops, people and scenes. The plots are unpredictable and I have never been able to guess who the murderer is. The best part of this series is watching the development of the characters and the relationships between them. Even the minor characters are well drawn. The people talk like real people. Nothing forced or unbelievable about them. I could barely put this book down! Now I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! If you have never read a cozy mystery, you must try this one! This book can be read as a stand-alone but once you read it, you will want to go back and read the entire series! Fabulous book and series! Kudos to Agatha Frost!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2024The characters are wonderful and evolving. The plot is twisty. The world building is great. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2022Very pleasant series. These aren’t the type of stories that astound you with their trickery. It’s a pleasant little mystery.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2023If you love to snuggle up and totally loose yourself in a good mystery- this novel is for you. Agatha is such a dedicated author. She must spend countless hours researching prior to writing because the mystery twists and turns and keeps the reader guessing the entire way through the novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018I have just returned from my latest trip to Peridale and I had a FANTASTIC time! The eleventh book in the series will not disappoint. I was still guessing who the murderer was right up until Julias reveal. This book will get you right in the feels with the added drama and twist of the Julia/Jessie storyline. Thank you Agatha for another wonderful trip, my bags are ready to go for the next adventure!!!! I have a feeling there are so many more trips to Peridale in my future!!!
