Five Stars to this Author
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2015I had downloaded this book onto my Kindle for a good read...I was not disappointed one bit. Ruth Hartzler has well developed characters and a sweet innocent love story. The story is basically about the Miller family who are Amish...there are four daughters in the family who are involved in a buggy-car accident that leaves all four injured and one continues in the hospital. To make the accident worse, it is the special friend of Hannah, the oldest who hit the buggy on a slick road while driving a car. Hannah's mother holds resentment to the young an along with Hannah who just cannot forgive him even tough she still gets butterflies thinking about him. Mrs. Miller and another woman try matchmaking with another Amish boy which does not go over well with Hannah. This was a sweet love story with all the sex some books have so it is appropriate for preteens and teens as well as adults. I highly recommend the book with shows lessons in forgiveness.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2024The characters are believable and real. Some Amish characters are too perfect. One complaint, lavender and rosemary would not be growing in a cold climate. Author should have at least identified a state. She seems to have a working knowledge of horses.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2014The Way Home is a most enjoyable book.. From the moment the Miller daughters buggy was struck by a car out of control due to the icy weather, I was hooked. Fortunately all 4 girls survived but were seriously injured. To make matters worse it was Hannah's first and only love, Noah, whose car went sailing out of control on the icy road while blinded with the freezing mist. As the girls struggle to recover from their injuries I found myself becoming angry with their overbearing mom, Mrs. Miller. Poor Hannah just couldn't get a break. For as though it wasn't bad enough she was going through such emotional struggles knowing the love of her life was the one who caused this pain and suffering by acting irresponsible, her mom still expected Hannah to resume her daily chores and take care of her sisters as if nothing had happened to Hannah. Mrs. Miller's matchmaking was unbelievable and so irritating. I was anxious to read the next book in the series to find out what happened next .
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2019This sweet, clean story has a HEA and shows growth in the main character, Hannah. She agonizes over various heartaches throughout most of the book, but the resolution is pretty simplistic and sudden, although I do appreciate the biblical counseling and outcome. But there are definite editing issues that I found distracting and frustrating. Names are confused, some misunderstandings are never cleared up, and sometimes words are left out or put in the wrong order. The author needed to read back through her rewrite, slowly.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2020I loved this well written book! The Miller girls are all in a buggy driven by Hannah, the oldest. Noah Hostetler was driving a car during his Rumspringa. The day was very misty and the roads were icy. He slides into the buggy and all 4 girls are injured. Hannah had always thought she would eventually marry Noah but now she was unable to forgive him. To make matters worse, her mother is set on matchmaking her to a local boy. Can Hannah find it in her heart to forgive?
I received a copy of this book from the author and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2021This book is really enjoyable & highlights a lot of the Amish beliefs and of their daily lifestyle. I really enjoyed the characters, also, as the writer has developed them really well. They actually seem to come to life in this storyline. It's hard for me to comprehend how the children & young adults do as their parents say automatically even when the requirements go against what they feel or want to do. This is especially so when the young adults are well passed 21 years old themselves. The book really does have a good storyline & I think anyone would enjoy reading it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2024It was a good story but I don't understand why and feel sorry for the Amish women who are all but forced into marrying someone they're not interested in.
