Konn Lavery
My name is Konn Lavery, a writer and graphic designer, my parents were Star Trek fans and were inspired by the villainous character, Kahn, by his superhuman abilities. So, they named me after him with their own twist on the wording.
It makes sense that I write evil things.
I also have an obsession with transmedia storytelling. The words, the music, and the art I create make one super story.
The Macrocosm Story Timeline
All of my novels connect into The Macrocosm, which is an on-going large-scale story expansion.
The Ash Born series brings all the unusual, horrific, and fantastic themes into view through the creatures, characters, worlds, lore, and tech.
Some of the novels have clear relations to one another while other books are self-contained. Connections can be found within Cultivate: Seed Me Relapse Edition, YEGman, Rave, and the dark fantasy series Mental Damnation.
The short story collections Into the Macrocosm and Beyond the Macrocosm elaborate further on the obscure cosmos.

Star Rating: ★★★★★REVIEW
After glancing at the cover for this book and skimming the blurb, I decided this is going to be very dark, very gritty, and very fantastical. And I wasn't far wrong. Written by the talented Konn Lavery, it follows the Nameless One who is attempting to understand the deaths of 22 souls. What follows is a cleverly plotted story - divided up into 22 individual shorts - populated with intriguing, often charismatic characters who all seem to be in a different state of flux.
In terms of writing style, this is where the author truly excels. Not only is the pacing excellent, there's also a good balance between powerful descriptive prose and realistic, well-written dialogue. This is a very atmospheric story. The author knows his setting - the mysterious Midway - and wants the reader, like the characters, to be immersed in it.
This set of shorts is not a simple read; the reader will have to work hard to keep up with what's going on, why it's going on, and even where it's happening. But it's intriguing stuff. It'll hook you in. And I suspect, like me, you will end up determined to find the answers the Nameless One is looking for.
Who is the book for? Well, if you enjoy the later Clive Cussler novels full of lazy predictability, this book is not for you. But if you don't mind working a little, if you enjoy being intrigued, of never knowing what will happen next but really, really wanting to know, this set of shorts will be right up your street.
Enjoy!--- Literary Titan
Star Rating: ★★★★★REVIEW
Into the Macrocosm by Konn Lavery is a collection of thought-provoking short stories about an unknown character who is the observer of 22 deaths. At the beginning of this intellectually invigorating collection readers are given intriguing theories on life after death. Konn Lavery addresses these theories in multiple ways, all of which are fictional in nature but spiritual at heart. Although the character is more of an observer in these stories, I like how I can still feel the personal connections while reading along. It was easy to get entangled in these insightful stories and there was a sense of adventure that was consistent throughout these stories. I also appreciated the subheadings in this collection because it helped me keep track of special events that lead to the plot twists.
Into The Macrocosm has so many fascinating stories that it will be impossible for readers to find at least one that speaks to them. None of the stories are overly horrifying, nor would I put these stories in the horror genre, there is just an ever-present ominous feeling that permeates these stories, enough to give you goosebumps rather than frighten you outright. This is a metaphysical exploration that leaves you with thoughts that are hard to shake. The way spiritual transformation is portrayed was enough for me to set the book down and ponder the implications for a bit. I loved that this collection used these dark stories to highlight the importance of self-awareness. I also loved how the author showed how much the darkness within us and around us can weigh us down.
Konn Lavery's Into The Macrocosm is an exceptional short story collection that explores some provocative ideas through a darkly imaginative lens reminiscent of Edgar Allen Poe or H.P. Lovecraft.

Transmedia Storytelling: One feature I enjoy about writing is the ability to explore transmedia storytelling, which is expanding on a story in multiple mediums. This short story collection contains photo illustrations I've done for each story. There is also a score for this collection found on my website.Even though they are not key elements to the story, they offer additional universe media for readers to enjoy.
From the Inside Flap
Observe through the lives of 22 souls as the Nameless One attempts to discover the lost memories of how they died. A ghoulish companion in the mysterious Midway aids in the search, where one can witness any time, at any place, for clues. Yet, they're not alone in this post-death realm. Even in death, danger lurks, and it is not too fond of visitors.
Award-winning author Konn Lavery's Into the Macrocosm dives into an on-going large-scale story expansion. The short story collection magnifies on previous connecting suspicions found in his horror novel Seed Me, thriller YEGman, and the dark fantasy series Mental Damnation. These interconnected tales bring them all under one, obscure, unsettling, cosmos.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2022The book is actually a collection of short stories tied together with an overarching idea. The stories are diverse, yet if you pay attention you can spot connections between some of the stories, which is cool. The stories will challenge you in different ways. Some are scary, others depressing, and some made me laugh. If you like sci-fi writing with a touch of darkness, then you will like this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2021In death, the soul leaves the body but where does it go? Travel through time and space to an eerie universe known as the Macrocosm, where souls regain their memories of not only how they died but what happens next. The journey is challenging and wrought with peril. Anyone can observe what happens but they better tread softly or else they might never escape those lurking behind them...
Into the Macrocosm is a short-story collection of some of the best dark fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction stories I've ever read. As a reader of the great masters of the genre, I found each story activated my imagination with the same morbid fascination as one stares at a gruesome accident. Each story is woven with a precise, well-executed plot, tight characters, just the right amount of suspense and creep factor. The world-building is exceptional, and each story transported me inside the world Konn Lavery has created. Some were downright scary while others had the mystique of horror. The Nameless One is the perfect main character as it's easy to insert oneself into him to observe all that is going on. Konn Lavery is a brilliant writer and I give him credit for weaving complete stories in the short story format. If you're a fan of this genre's master storytellers, you need to read Into the Macrocosm. Highly recommend!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2022These tales are of a cosmic, sci-fi, “Twilight Zone” level. Well…at least, that’s what they were supposed to be. They’re poetic in a sense, but too fragmented and technical. At some point you wonder if there are any points at all to these stories. You just end up getting lost in a sea of mindless drivel.
