The first few pages had me wondering which way was up but I finally got a tenuous grasp on what was going on then really enjoyed the ride. I carted my phone everywhere with me for a while so I could keep reading every chance I got. I normally am not fond of serial rabbit holes but these were intriguing mind f*cks that even made you doubt your own reality.
I don't even know how to describe the plot without inadvertently spoiling something. Let's just say I am even less trusting of the "technology is your friend" theme going on in the world now.
I love Johnny B. Truant and anyone he collaborates with and devour each book I get my Kindle's electronic little hands on. This books hovers at the top of my favorites along with the Fat Vampire and Unicorn Western series and anything else from Sterling
If you want a mindless romp, look elsewhere. If you want a book that makes you think (and sometimes makes your brain hurt!) then jump into this book posthaste.

This was probably one of the most complicated novel I ever read... But I loved it.
The first third of the story can be very confusing, so don't be surprised if you keep reading the same page over and over trying to understand what's happening... the main character is probably in your same position...
At the beginning it took me a lot from dropping the book. And then, when you finally pass the hardest part of the story, you'll start seeing the pieces of the puzzle coming together and you can't stop reading page after page. You want to know more and more. And I can't say more without spoiling it...
As I said it's a very complicated novel, but it's "Platt & Truant" at their best...

This book was about five times as long as it needed to be. Character development was nonexistent and it kept going over the same nonsensical plot over and over and over! The only reason I read the whole book is that I try to finish what I start. Kept hoping it would get better or have a redeeming ending but no luck. Stunk all the way to the predictable boring end! Don’t waste your time or money - terrible!

I've seen some of the reviews talking about how confusing the book was at the beginning. My opinion: It's Supposed to be that way, people! You're confused because Mason (main character) is confused. Don't let that deter you from reading this book. It all becomes clear - trust me. As we moved towards the latter third of the book, I couldn't put it down, and I found the ending thoroughly satisfying. Original, immersive, all those good things. Great read.

I eat up everything by the authors and am usually beyond satisfied. I couldn’t get into the novel’s premise. I found it convoluted, and I just never engaged with the conflict and plot in general. I didn’t feel connected or involved enough with the characters. They weren’t developed enough, lacked depth. All said and done, it reads more like a screen play that’s meant for special effect entertainment than the authors’ usual stories that suck me into another world.

It took me a while to realise that a lot of what was happening was inside Mason's head but when I did it started to make sense just for a while then it all went into a different level of unreality involving more people inside his head or in prison. He has ways to get out with help from Dakota and others who are sometimes real and sometimes constructs of his imagination but real in his head with their own destinations and motivations. Chamber therapy sounds like a solution to criminality but it is in the wrong hands and trying to use it for profit is the wrong solution if it involves Blake and Elisabeth putting them into Pattern Black to use them as living cadaver brain boxes for financial gain. Read it and try to make sense of it then explain it to me please.
